1/27/2024 0 Comments D d 5e eyes of the eagle![]() ![]() And Hurl Through Hell? You can trigger that with a Melee Attack, it has no Saving Throw, doesn't use your Cha at all, and neutralizes an enemy AND gives them a big chunk of extra damage to think about! It's literally all good for you! And they last twice as long! What else do you get? How about Dark One's Own Luck? Wouldn't you like to make your Saves a lot? And Fiendish Resilience? Yes, I'll take Resistance to a damage type of my choice, thank you very much, especially since I can change it when I know what we're up against. Oh, and you want the class features of the Fiend- Temp HP when you kill an enemy? Dude, that is, like, your THING as a Barbarian with GWM who can Smite on a Reckless Attack. Maybe Devil's Sight, too, maybe one or two others along those lines. ![]() You could do Fiendish Vigor to start every fight with a big pack of Temp HP that, again, stick around longer. * Why all that Warlock? Because you want Invocations- Thirsting Blade and Improved Pact Weapon and Eldritch Smite. and your Armor lasts twice as long because you're Resistant to a lot of damage. Cast that when you know a fight's coming up. But your big spell cast is Armor of Agathys. ![]() So you have Booming Blade (Cha irrelevant) if you want a cool trick. WTF, Unka Josh? Yes, but consider: You have only a couple of Rages if you do the build this way. Pick up GWM and Reckless Attack CONSTANTLY that will be how you operate. So how does this thing actually work? Messily. It starts a little slow, and yeah, you've got this odd thing going on with your stats- maybe go Half-Elf for that extra stat point to go to get Charisma 13. But here's one that I don't see that often: What do you consider unusual? There's a few surprised out there many have been discussed some places. Variant (Aarakocra Artificer 4+): For even more range, an Aarakocra Artificer with Sharpshooter and a Reloading Weapon infusion can use a Heavy Crossbow (range 400) or Longbow (range 600) to shoot at foes. If your foes come looking for you.use your small size (or tiny if you cast reduce) along with stealth (which you can get as your bonus Skill Expert skill) to ensure they can't find you. Take Skill Expert at 4th for Perception expertise and acquire eyes of the eagle to counter any DM objections about the target being hard to see. ![]() Even indoors, you can take advantage of high ceilings and long corridors to utilize your superior range. Then, fly a few hundred feet above everyone during travel and outdoor encounters, sniping at targets who have no way to attack back, with no concerns about running out of ammo. Flight is already a good way to avoid melee and restrict who can attack you, but the Faraway Flyer can take this to an extreme with Eldritch Spear (increase range to 300 ft on eldritch blast). Races with innate flight have started entering 5e games, thanks to supplements like Monsters of the Multiverse. Feel free to share any fun builds here! Ideally, these shouldn't depend on magic items, or at most a single magic item of Uncommon rarity. I know there's a lot of optimization that goes on with 5e, but I'm interested in the builds that may have slipped under the radar of those designing efficient characters. ![]()
